Meal Planning

Meal Planning in Coralville, Iowa

“Plan the work and work the plan.”

Back in my project management days, this was a common saying for planning and executing work successfully and profitably.  While I’m no longer a project manager for an engineering firm, I am a project manager for our household and my work.  I find that this phrase still has lots of application in my life, but most specifically in the area of meal planning.

Have I told you how much I love meal planning?  When my clients ask me the #1 strategy to eat healthy, meal planning is what I tell them.  Now you might be thinking, meal planning, seriously?  The #1 strategy for eating healthy?  Yep, I’m totally serious.  Picture this:

You’ve had a crazy busy day and you’re trying to get out of work to run and pick up the kids.  You have 30 minutes in between when you will get home and the kids soccer practice.  Can you whip up a healthy meal in 30 minutes AND have time to eat it without inhaling your food?  Probably not.  The result?  Some sort of fast food on the way home.

I can’t tell you how common this scenario is.  With our lives getting busier and busier with work, kids, extracurricular activities (kids and parents), a healthy, family meal around the table is slowly becoming extinct.

Now I know you’re thinking, how can meal planning really help me cook a healthy meal and eat it in 30 minutes?

Let’s go back to our scenario.  I only have 30 minutes in between getting home and leaving to go to soccer practice.  In my meal plan I have a crockpot meal planned for that day.  When I arrive home, voila, there is a delicious, healthy meal waiting for me and our family has plenty of time to eat and enjoy the food.

Planning the work and working the plan.  That’s what I’m going to help you learn how to do.  It will become your number 1 strategy for staying on track.  Let’s get to it!

“Amy helped me identify ways to gradually decrease the amount of processed sugar in my diet by cutting down on high sugar foods (especially pop) and adding healthier options. I never felt deprived and now have far fewer cravings for sweets.” -Shelley

”Around 9 months ago I reached out to Amy because I felt like I was out of control. I have a stressful job as a school administrator and I was honestly living on caffeine and sugar. I was so tired! I was absolutely exhausted every day after work and I was gaining weight. Amy recommended changes in my diet. It’s not been an easy road, but I have eliminated sugar – especially candy and Diet Coke and I’ve replaced my treats with my healthier choices like greek yogurt and water! My energy is coming back and I am feeling so much more in-control of my diet, my body and my life.” -Sue

”Amy helped me implement some easy strategies that dramatically decreased my sugar intake and helped me increase my energy! The best part was I didn’t feel like I was depriving myself and I’ve been able to keep up with the changes I made over time!” -Carey
