DOT Physical Exams

Total Health Chiropractic provides DOT physical exams performed by Dr. Andrew Donnelly, DC, a FMCSA-Certified Medical Examiner listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME).

DOT physicals are required to determine whether commercial drivers meet federal medical standards for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle. Exams are conducted in accordance with FMCSA regulations under 49 CFR §391.

What Is Included in a DOT Physical

DOT physical exams include all components required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, including:

• Review of driver medical history (FMCSA Medical Examination Report – MCSA-5875)
• Blood pressure and vital signs
• Vision testing (acuity, color, and peripheral vision)
• Hearing screening
• Urinalysis (required DOT screening)
• Musculoskeletal and neurological assessment
• General physical examination per FMCSA standards
• Issuance of the Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MCSA-5876), if qualified

Exam results are submitted electronically to the FMCSA National Registry, as required.

Appointment Length

Most DOT physical exams are completed in 25–45 minutes.
If the driver qualifies, the medical certificate is issued the same day.

Certification Length

Medical certification may be issued for up to 24 months.
Shorter certification periods may be issued based on medical findings in accordance with FMCSA guidelines.

Certification is determined solely by federal medical standards. Certification is not guaranteed.

What to Bring

Drivers should bring the following to their appointment:

• Government-issued photo ID
• Glasses or contacts if used for driving
• List of current medications with dosages
• Medical documentation for chronic conditions, if applicable
• CPAP compliance report if treated for sleep apnea
• Any required FMCSA supporting documentation

• Drug and alcohol testing is not offered at this location
• DOT physical exams are separate from chiropractic care

Chiropractic evaluations, imaging, or treatment are not part of the DOT physical exam and are not required for certification.
